Travellogue : Kolli Hills (Namakkal, Tamilnadu)
21 Oct 2007
Me & Pavan, on Pavan’s red thunder (the Royal Enfield – Thunderbird) left Chennai at around 6 am - that Sunday morning towards Kolli Hills (a hillstation near Namakkal) to get done the previous week’s failed plan (it failed the previous week coz Pavan had to go to Bangalore for a convention). The drive on NH45 was so smooth (till Dindivanam). We had breakfast at Brindavan (Near Chengalpet). The pleasure of driving had to take backseat as the road after Dindivanam till Ulundurpet was bad. Redthunder was fuming at few places when it had to hammer the pits with its strong wheels ;)
After Ulunderpet, Mr.Pleasure was back and we drove through Thalaivasal, Athur, Rasipuram, Namagiripettai and Semmedu to reach Kollihills.
From Athur till Kolli hills, our eyes and the camera lens had various reasons to beam at quite a lot of picturesque spots. The drive was awesome. If there’s anything to bother, it was the weather.
There aint much to see in Kolli Hills except thick vegetation and (Psst..’ll tell you later). We stayed at the Youth Hostel near the temple atop Kolli Hills.
We reached Kolli Hills by noon, tired and exhausted after driving for over 10 hours (forced to stop at quite a few spots for photo-session and thirst-quenching & Yeah! We missed lunch too ).
We shared the youth hostel with Bryce Grin, an Australian (Only three guests there that day – We two and Bryce). We got a room for four-hundred bucks to spend the night. We didn’t see any mist atop the hills and the weather wasn’t that of a hill station at all.
The next day morning, li’l disappointed, we decided to pack-up quickly after breakfast. We three (Me, Pavan & Bryce) had breakfast at a small hotel near the temple and decided to have a look at the waterfall before we are back to the hostel and set-off the drive back to Chennai. We climbed down the steep steps towards the waterfall. Could hear the falling waters and it got louder as we climbed down each step. We didn’t have any expectation at all (none of us carried towel or spare clothes).
But Man! The waterfall was awesome! The white heavenly water crashing on the rocky floor from vertical two hundred meters is a must-watch!! A shower was too tempting to miss and we had great time getting ourselves wet and had fun as the water battered our backs. There were only three of us in that beautiful location at that time may be coz it was a weekday.
We left Kolli Hills by 10.30 AM and reached Chennai by 8PM.
The End
